I switched to Void (Musl)

edit: Of course as soon as I make a stink about something I find out that open source operating systems have been exempted for the laws I’m bitching about, my point still stands though. Systemd chose to comply early, and thats extremely suspicious to me.

I don’t like governments telling me what I can or can’t have on my computer. It’s my computer. I’ll run whatever damn software I please. I don’t need to prove my age to do it either.

Void doesn’t ask to be a bastion for people avoiding systemd. In fact they would probably detest that I’m using it for exactly that reason. I’m not on the systemd hate train, or at least I wasn’t. IDK politics is weird, and I don’t like that it has to play into the choices I have to make as an individual. I just don’t like the idea of such a big part of an ecosystem which so heavily values freedom is so quickly complying with laws which serve to do more harm than good.

I hope I’m not wrong here. I just want an operating system that doesn’t care what I’m doing. I want it to be an office machine, for software dev. It doesn’t need to know how old I am. It doesn’t need to tell the apps I’m using how old I am either.

I’m not some political dissident, or anything like that ya know?
I’m just a girl who wants to be anonymous when she chooses to. It feels like I’m losing the freedom to walk around without advertising who I am to the whole world.

I grow louder / the fool?

I grew up online
scrolling domains
stumblring, tripping
headfirst into image
and video that never
should have been seen
by someone who was just a teen.
But these digital streets of silicon
have cleaned up quite a lot since then.
Where once we had neon electric sex
now there's Gemini asking for text.
Electric streets in the screen
from circuit boards of green
feel safer now they're clean.
I think the problem with double edged
swords is that it's a bad analogy.
I think anyone who's ever pushed it thinking
it's talking about a blade which is sharp on both sides
owe's me an apology.
So forgive me if I think it's time we take
a little dive in to the past and
cut through these weeds we call etymology.
A double edged sword is one like darth maul,
blade on each end, hilt in the middle, is all.
It's not that hard to imagine then what happens
when you pass one from you to your friend.
One hand on each blade you each hold the knife
with which we make the cut to open surveilance for life.

Call me a luddite, or maybe a fool.
At least I'm not used as some advertising tool.

They tricked us into thinking we were important enough the whole world would want to know everything about us and we could all be friends, but the world is much lonlier, the corporations own our information and we are all just a product.
