I cycle to class, something super easy where I live, a ‘major’ city in central New Mexico. It almost never rains, except for during monsoon season, which starts in…just about now.
Speaking of which, y’all ever raced a storm head 3 miles uphill? Me either til today. I didn’t get wet, but my bike is sitting outside chained up getting soaked right now. Glad I applied a coat of paraffin to the chain the other day, little salty I’m gonna have to do it again tonight.
I’ve got a waxed bag, so even if I did get caught in the rain all my electronics (like the iPad I’m making this post from, or my kindle which houses my textbooks) would’ve been fine, but this is something that the “cycle everywhere” folx don’t mention. I guess it’s not that big a deal when you’re properly prepared but I’m doing this with a modded Walmart gravel bike, not something designed for daily commuting or this much wear.
The hub my pedals attach at is damaged I think, the bearing clicks when I ride. It’s time to take it in to the shop I think, I’m probably at the limit of my maintenance skills.
