I Used to Keep a Gemini Capsule – Episode 3

#Entry 3

Yesterday I crashed out because I misinterpreted an assignment. Over the years this has frequently been an issue. I have a more rigid definition of 'thorough work' than it seems like people tend to. I also tend to parse things differently. When someone tells me `compare and contrast` three things, you bet your ass I'm handing them at least 4 paragraphs. I was given a task and I'd like to complete it. Turns out people usually read that as an introductory sentence, with the rest of the assignment being the instructions. I thought I had 5 tasks, turns out it was 1 task and 4 supporting questions to get my thinking in the right place. So I wrote an essay.

If you've been reading so far you can probably already tell I can crank out an essay like hendrix can crank out a chord. They're not good, that's not the point. I appreciate precision, verbosity, and most of all a tone that makes me feel at ease. To achieve this I often shatnerize a bit. For anyone unawares, shatnerization is a reference to William Shatner's character in Star Trek: The Original Series, who often, tended to insert pauses into his speech... for emphasis and dramatic effect. I'm not in middle school anymore so I've toned it down quite a bit, but it still happens time to time.

I don't really have much to write about today so far. It's only 09:25 and I just didn't want to miss my streak. Writing is important, even if you don't expect anyone to ever read it. Especially if you don't expect anyone to ever read it.
